- 1. Building global competence in an intercultural environment At present, children live in a transforming world. Emerging digital, demographic, economic, and environmental factors shape the lives of young children. The complex intercultural environment presents both challenges and opportunities to sharpen their skills. Young children learn to appreciate cultural differences and benefit from interacting with children from different cultures and lifestyles. Children pursuing education in an international school develop global competence that builds multidimensional capacity in them. Being globally competent, the children can analyse global, local, and intercultural issues. They learn to appreciate the perceptions of others and respect their views. In an international primary school at ASIS, standards are maintained to develop global competence in children from a young age. We provide opportunities to look at issues that prevail both locally and globally. With the latest e-learning technology, children learn how to use digital information to gain knowledge and be successful in their academics. Global competence in academics promotes diverse cultures. It encourages children to learn how to interact smoothly with others in social life. While disruption of life happens because of ethnic or religious intolerance, people living in diverse-cultural environments know how to accept differences and live in peace. They know how to handle disagreements and find solutions to social issues with ease. Achieving global competence through education in schools requires changes in the way children learn in their classes. It focuses on the way they learn about changes that happen in other cultures and in the world. The teachers support children by offering opportunities to interact with students from diverse cultures. Teachers help them analyse the root cause of problems that exist globally and build solutions that would solve those issues effectively. Though it looks like a lifelong process to develop an intercultural outlook globally, 21st-century skills can be successfully built from a young age for a better future. It is the willingness to show openly the desire to cooperate, interact, and engage with people from a different culture. ASIS offers a holistic environment that stimulates, engages, and provokes excellent learning moments for students.
